I may have people coming in continuing
to Stage so howdy you everybody we are
recording if you didn't
know if we didn't know I guess is really
should be but uh let's see I'm GNA do a
little here I want to De oh I don't pop
up there I want to take this thing and I
want to make sure there's nothing there
good kill
him so we got uh last two were hiring
talent and scaling with contractors
employees ease uh we did elevator pitch
overcoming barriers uh business finance
management and the kickoff so we're on
seven and8 this week what did we we had
something I could find it did you write
it in your notes or on your board I
probably did
well good thing about like all right I'm
gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna whine a little
bit um it's like so we have a we're
staging the house and the real estate
agent came in it's like okay well here's
all the stuff you got to move and stuff
like that and she said you know look at
my office of course she was like I don't
know what we're going to do here but I
know you got to work which to me is like
okay then you can't touch
anything so clean everything off all
this stuff and one of the things she
said do you you know do you need the
Whiteboard I'm like yeah I use a
whiteboard all the time and so she's
like okay well Natalie heard I was going
to take the Whiteboard down and then she
just assumed I didn't do it so at the
last minute I come in after they'd
staged it and I was like that lady took
my whiteboard down we we had a
discussion and agreed so she was it and
I oh no I did and I was like so I was
not prepared for it and so whatever I
had you know I'd already I think I'd
already erased everything off of there
so I I don't have my board anymore so
got my whining out of the way um and I
don't know where I have notes I don't
think I wrote that down so I thought I
put it in slack let me see if I let me
go look real quick did iwhere looking
for that uh so I went to a lunch meeting
this week and uh there was a lady from
Jackson State talking about Ai and
business and it made me think so we
already talked about Skilling the
contractor's employee and hiring Talent
one topic that I thought maybe we could
discuss is not so much um like hiring
but maybe task handoff or using AI or
virtual assistance to streamline your
process so you can focus on the things
that you need to focus on and
not basically do the busy
work yeah it feels like it's not a I
don't know
[Music]
um it's probably not a we can do AI
everybody likes AI so I guess we'll do
an AI we can do an AI discussion and
soort like some ways you can leverage AI
I mean that was what n and I were
talking yesterday we were because we're
looking at we're doing
branding and Stu because I gave her
another title basically I'm like okay I
want you doing like media marketing and
stuff I want because that was part of
what we talked about from the start is
for her to do some of the branding and
marketing and things and so she said
well I actually had a chat with I had a
discussion with chat GPT about uh Google
basically about
SEO she's about like you know rankings
and Google and stuff like that and I'm
like okay well that's pretty cool I was
like so what did it come up with and it
did come up with a couple things that
you know have I didn't know because
Google changes their stuff period I
odically but um I was like you know
there's like it's not bad to have some
of those where you're like okay I'm
going to throw some ideas out there and
see what it comes back with because
sometimes it'll G it's like everything
else it's another voice so um it's not a
bad way to go about stuff it's like yeah
I I don't use it as much as I probably
should but particularly like uh meeting
summaries and some of those kinds of
things it's actually pretty darn useful
and then you get into the whole um
the like doing tasks that are repetitive
I mean there's some things now there's a
lot of stuff you can throw at AI that
can uh can definitely speed your work up
especially the repetitive stuff so yeah
I think we'll do Ai and
then oh what's another what's another
what's a good one I wondering if there's
something else we can do that's sort of
like a followup because we've already
done we've talked about like handing off
tasks right we've already done like TR
remember you already you just list them
all out and I've already forgot them all
yeah I accidentally oh that's email not
my where did it go uh there it is I
think we've done something about like
using we did uh scaling with contractors
and employees okay so I think that's uh
that was growing your business so that
we didn't really get into this part of
it that's why I brought it up because uh
one of the things that they were
leveraging in this class was talking
about like why don't you use it for some
of your HR tasks like building a a
company handbook or like a code in
conduct or things like that like where
you would spend money or hire someone to
do this and you don't really do it again
for a while why not leverage AI to get
you 90% there uh and then hire somebody
if you need to but you know use it for
the beginning and it looks like I am
really cutting out is my audio okay your
audio is okay but you're like you're
jumping around you're Max Head rooming a
little bit there so hang on let me turn
off this light that might help
is that
better
this okay yeah you're not like it's not
jumping as much that's odd that it would
be a light oh that reminds me one more
light on
it that's the light yeah that's a
light I have all these lights I might as
well make use of them
okay
so and
let's get through the Ai Ai and just
general let's talk about because we
haven't really let's go back to like in
then General automation like some of the
things Automation and templates let's
say because actually I think AI will
sort of feed into that or
actually let's reverse those too let's
go Automation and templates first and
then we'll follow then the next one will
be Ai and sort of using AI to build that
and that's like you said like your
employee handbook and crap like that
which was funny you mentioned that
because that's something we're building
right now is just like huh I wonder what
this is look like and most the employee
it's like well okay grandfather didn't
grandfather didn't
grandfather didn't exist when you guys
came
here is that for for the other one or
for the your current one oh that's for
this is for RB Consulting
so we don't have an employee guide we
just like I always give them like a few
documents and stuff like that it's like
all right we're going to build a
handbook and stuff like we had a
handbook but it was virtual and it was
like it was me chasing stuff down like a
you know rabid squirrel trying to figure
out where all those documents went even
though I had a folder that they should
all be in stuff would grow and move
and so that's a good thing we'll talk
about Automation and templates because
that will help I think immensely and
then we'll go into Ai and so we'll do a
little three and two and go what well I
was just going to say real quick before
we do it um that also could lead into
another topic of filing and managing
your
paperwork um yeah we may that may even
be something we do here that may one to
talk about here sort of like a file
system or something like managing all
that crap because I think that is part
of the automation because it's not
necessarily just uh like computer
program automation but just yourself
having a very automatic like this is
what I do this is how I do it this is
where it goes that kind of stuff okay
we'll go back to this we'll do our
little three and a two well hello and
welcome back we are building better
developers we are develop andur we are
back for another episode this time we're
going to talk about uh templates and
automation and some things like that in
your business uh and just ways for you
to get your stuff done faster however
we're going to wait give you a little
bit of like you know so you refresh your
caffeine or you can listen really
closely to us because I'm going to
introduce myself my name is Rob
Broadhead I am one of the founders of
develop andur also founder of RB
Consulting where we through integration
simplification automation Innovation we
use all of these tools and then we use
the most important tool which is a
conversation with you we understand work
with your to understand your business
and actually not just you know in a
general sense but like what is your
secret sauce what is it that is your
your brand what is it that you bring
that brings the most value and then we
helped find ways to leverage technology
to get your job done better while still
being yourself not like one of these
like chat Bots that you automatically
know is just a really bad Ai and it's
just somebody automating something it's
like no this is where you're like we're
going to make sure that we get the best
of your best foot forward with your
customers and leverage that major
investment that most companies have
these days in
technology now good things and bad
things uh see good and it's again I'm
like I'm really in this like two sides
of the same coin season of life it feels
like because and I've talked about a
little bit but we're downsizing we're
moving somewhere else and so we've we've
had people come in and now they've
staged the house and now the good part
of that is that we have all this like
little furniture and stuff like they
have so the house looks better than it
ever has it's it's like it's it's really
good I mean it's like it's nice it's
comfy it's all this kind of stuff it's
not like necessarily the highest quality
Furniture anything but it looks really
nice the downside is the bad thing is
that one of the things we did was my
office and so now when I go to work I
don't feel like I'm at work anymore I've
got like all the stuff that I've have
had for like is all my little like
Comfort things and all that kind of
stuff that like ERS my workspace to me
is sort of like you know cold and just
surgical at this point so
I guess and I guess that's the other
good thing is that just more reason for
me to become a road warrior for a while
and go check out like the local cafes
and stuff like
that now so he's because he's got his
caffeine and he's ready to go I want to
go pass this over to Michael so he can
reduce himself hey everyone my name is
Michael M I'm one of the co-founders of
developer building better developers I'm
also the founder of Envision QA where we
help
businesses really analyze their software
and understand if the software is
working for them or their working for
their software one example is if you
find yourself doing more manual tasks
than the software can help you with we
can help you walk through those process
build systems or apply systems in place
to help you streamline your business
improve your performance and hopefully
improve the bottom line good and bad
this week uh little bit of a good and
bad uh it started getting warm started
getting nice started feeling better and
then we got cold again and all that fun
stuff with the rain and the other bad of
that is because of all the r we're in
that rainy season uh our driveway
started to get washed out so uh the
other good with that was the guy who
came by when we first bought the house
that uh surfaced our driveway happened
to come around three days after we were
just having the discussion of hey we
probably need to do the driveway again
this year and got it done for uh it
wasn't too cheap but it's cheaper than
replacing the driveway so good and
bad so this one as I said we're going to
talk about basically like automations
and templates and things like that and I
don't want to get we can go and we will
talk about like using software and
applications and stuff like that but
this is really more about routine and
things like that and making sure that
you've got things in a situation if you
use them a lot then you don't have to
spend a lot of time on them you can just
like boom you're done and you keep on
going and that's why I talk like
probably a lot of this is more about
like templates and processes and
procedures and things like that than
actually like writing code or anything
like that the first thing is think about
the stuff that you do daily or maybe
even weekly like on a regular basis for
example for my company one of the things
I've do probably almost daily definitely
do every week is we will write proposals
for a wide range of
stuff and then another thing we do is we
send statuses out we send statuses to
customers and we do like everybody you
know you do invoicing periodically
that's something that you may do daily
weekly monthly whatever it is that's
usually something you're counting kind
of stuff you're probably going to do on
a regular basis so those are a couple PL
and then I guess the other one is just
sort of in a general sense is our
marketing effort so it's where we want
to get our name out there so there's all
of these are very it's very useful to
have a template to them so stepping back
like proposals with the proposal
proposal yes every proposal is unique to
some extent because it's going to be
like a specific you almost always it's
going to be a specific customer so
specific needs specific request
essentially responding to a specific RFP
however there's a lot of boilerplate
kind of stuff that we're going to use in
any one of those that are things like
and there or they're things that really
don't change from Project to project so
it's stuff like who are we what do we do
how do we approach it what is our maybe
like some of our values or maybe even as
I've mentioned earlier it's like maybe
there's some like your secret sauce like
what do we bring to the table that's a
differentiator from somebody else those
are all excellent things to have as part
of every single proposal that you put
together so we have a template that is
basically like here it is and then I can
go through and I can put in the
specifics and a lot of that is even
templated to some extent because it's
things like I know I'm always going to
have a like here's roughly you know
restating what the project is and here's
what the primary goals are then here's
some of the you know breaking that down
to like maybe some of the key Milestones
or something like that those things
occur everywhere so it helps to have a
of template not only just because you're
just going to like reuse the same thing
it's not just copy and paste but it is
like to give yourself an outline so when
you sit down to do that process it's
easier for you to just sit down and just
like Bam Bam Bam you go through the
steps because you've always done it you
don't have to worry about it's early in
the morning or late at night and I
forgot this step or something like that
you just walk through it or you and you
can also tweak these these things so
your templates can make you better
because what you can do is you can look
at how well that template that approach
works that process works and then you
can say ah I wonder if I can improve it
you make some changes you take a look at
it and see if maybe that improves it so
that's like for proposals for status
it's the same thing and actually status
and I would say almost any email that
you send out there's things like you
know you have a footer on an email go
ahead and use that signature to the
email and like use it to spread around
your your company some you know a lot of
places will be it'll be maybe their
mission statement or their Vision uh it
usually be like contact information and
then usually stuff like you know some
little tagline or maybe a link a lot of
people like I do will put a link to
their calendly or one of their
scheduling things so it's like hey if
you want to schedule a call here's an
easier way to do it I recommend that
even if you're not just for yourself
these days if you've got some sign of
sort of service or something like that
it's so much easier than somebody saying
hey I'd like to talk to you let's
schedule it back forth a thousand times
and you finally land on something just
say hey here's a link pick a time that
works for you and just make sure you got
your stuff you you know put together yet
another automation piece that you can do
the other one I want to talk about is uh
General marketing and branding kind of
stuff is we have if you're especially if
you're in any kind of business that you
know if you've got a side hustle your
regular business kind of stuff where
you're interacting with customers or
more importantly potential customer
customers prospects of some sort then
it's going to help to have some things
that are sort of your intro to your
company flyers and things like that and
it's going to vary on what you are but
it's probably going to be things about
like who you are again who you are
what's your value what do you bring to
the table maybe you know current sales
and Deals and stuff like that maybe
there's references a lot of people will
have like references from other
customers that say Hey you know
Michael's a great guy I love working
with them something like that these are
all really like just I I think we
Overlook them sometimes is these are
automations and templates and processes
that allow us to have a consistent look
and feel and approach of our company
without having to do a whole lot it's
basically like do it refine it and then
just like here you go and know one more
thing before I pass on to Michael I'm
going to steal it from him because he
mentioned this is because I mention that
I I sometimes suck at this um is or
organizing such things is when you go to
do when you've got all these templates
and you know all of these things that
you've built out you need to have an
organized way to look at it now it can
be helpful you could be like me and
there's like I have all of these odd
little mental Journeys so I can follow
through my stuff but if I have to go
look for one specific thing and I'm not
on that Journey it can take me a while
to get there thus that's why I have
somebody that now is like that's part of
her biggest job is organizing all of our
crap is basing basically taking these
documents and doing it in a way that a
normal person that at any point can be
able to navigate through versus it being
which worked for me I will I will you
know argue that it did work for me
because it was like I was on this
journey so I knew at every step where I
was going to be so I knew where I needed
to have my stuff my materials for it so
you you may want to do it that way
there's nothing wrong with that because
sometimes
your how you do it is the best way for
you so it's like if that's how if you
have a process and you're here and this
is what it looks like then organize it
that way but it doesn't hurt to maybe
especially these days with all the
digital links and stuff you can do is
have it both ways you can have it your
way just like McDonald's whatever Burger
King whoever it was that tagline you can
have it your way but also you could
actually like build a structure that
makes sense just like we talked about
way back with development if you're if
you just have like one folder and you
just throw all your source of various
types in there it's easy to find it in a
sense because it's in the one folder but
if you want to find a specific thing
it's really a pain because you have to
look at maybe thousands of other folders
it's the same kind of thing and I think
for us as developers maybe that makes
more sense is realize that your business
is sort of its own set of code and
directories and folders and if you build
that out properly and look at any big
business you'll see those kinds of
structures to steal those is go ahead
and use that and that will help you as
well with your processes your procedures
and being able to execute them
better that was a lot and so I'm sure
Michael is going to have quite a lot
here he's been waiting he's been taking
notes he's been like ah now it's his
turn unless I cut him
off thanks Rob
so you've already kind of touched on you
know using Automation and templates for
invoicing strategies proposals marketing
you touched on email uh let me take it a
little bit further into The Branding
world of things because you know I'm
currently are social media guy for
developer Nur I cut the videos I post
them on social media things like that
and I'm actually going to kind of walk
through how I use a form of Automation
and templates to streamline that process
which used to take hours into a smaller
time site of a couple hours you know
sometimes this took a day now it takes
maybe about two hours because we still
have to write our content for our blogs
so initially the first thing we do if
you're doing any type of social media or
branding for your company you're going
to want to post on social media there's
lots of different things you can do like
Facebook LinkedIn Twitter X whatever um
but essentially what you're going to
want to do is you kind of want to get
into a routine of doing that so you have
to automate or create a schedule for
posting out your social media because
you don't want to just do it once and
forget about I'm bad about that with
Envision QA cuz I'm too busy working in
the business than on the business but
when it comes to doing things the right
way or the way you should to stay you
know up on the rankings within Google or
with your uh your customers to keep them
engaged you want to try to get into a
routine of you know use your calendar
set up a calendar reminder that hey I
need to post on Monday Wednesday Fridays
um initially if you're not new to social
media do things where you stagger your
were postings you know do it like at in
the mornings one day um lunchtime One
Day Afternoon one day kind of getting a
routine to see what where the feedback
comes in this is kind of interesting
because if you are in the world of
Wordpress or uh other types of website
management tools you can actually
download Little apps and things and
reminders where you can schedule these
things out to help you automate the
process years ago we used uh something
uh was it's not calendary that's the
scheduling tool that we use today for
calls but uh we used one for uh it was
buffer so we used it to uh essentially
go into a calendar we would post the
days we want our content to go out we
would put links to our blogs and we
would set it and forget it it would post
out for us we would spend one day doing
it instead of trying to remember oh I
got to go every day and do that there
are still tools out there and sites that
do that um but because the social media
sites constantly keep changing things
they break a lot so you still have a
little bit of a manual process uh even
with the podcasts that we push out
sometimes we run into issues where the
tools we use to push our podcast out to
all the different sites where podcasts
go sometimes that fails and we need to
catch that and then we have to make sure
that we still get our podcast out in a
timely
manner um now for those of you because
this is a developer or podcast uh if you
are a developer we like to write code
so one of the other things you can touch
on is instead of going out and looking
for these things to help you automate
you can write your own tools to automate
your own um templates and social media
posts and things of that nature so well
like Rob said you can use the existing
tools like word and that they have
templates where you can kind of format
the way you want it and then you reuse
them you could also create your own
TurnKey solution with soft Weare where
you can basically design what it is that
you want that is custom for your company
and then you essentially push a button
and it spits out what you want the other
thing with that is it's something that
you could possibly even sell or license
so as you're building your business and
you're working within your business and
looking at these Automation and template
things sometimes you run into things
that are beneficial to others and if you
can get it to work for yourself throw it
out there you might make some more money
on this I think uh what it Gary Vander
chuk or Tim Ferris one of them did
something where uh or maybe someone they
interviewed created a couple uh
WordPress plugins that were very useful
to them to help them with their business
and they just put them out there and
they sold like you know they sold like
wildfire so these are I know I'm kind of
getting off the topic of automation
template but it comes from that so if
you are doing something that helps your
self your business and be more
productive
the these are also opportunities that
you can use to essentially brand or even
Outsource some of your tools to others
and make additional income within your
business yeah and I think that's a that
that does take us a little off Tropic
but I think that is a good thing to
consider is that there may
be not only a benefit to you in doing
your with your processes your procedures
your templates and things like that but
it may be benefit to other people and
there are businesses that have been
built off of the business that they did
taking their tools and moving that out
to use for somebody else so there's
always that uh secondary you know effect
or maybe it's further down but also
additional effect that you can have from
doing your processes and your procedures
as you do it I I would want to uh note
that when you're doing automated
stuff um particularly if you can if
you're going to code it one of the
things that if you can put some sort of
wiggle room into your
consistency it does help a little bit
these days because there's things like
you know if you want to post it's one
thing if you want to do your post like
at noon every day like Bam Bam Bam at
noon at noon and that's what we do with
the like the podcast and the all of our
releases they go out at certain time
certain day because you know we're going
to be available then but if you're doing
General marketing stuff like hey here's
an artic hey here's a reference to
something we did last week it helps to
have to like move that around a little
bit partially because then the social
stuff will not like kick you out and say
this is just a bot and even other people
will say hey maybe this is like it feels
more human because it's not like bam
every day at the same time I don't know
how much that adds but for some reason
all of us even though we know that we
can schedule stuff somewhat randomly we
still feel a little better knowing that
oh it was a little early it was a little
late so maybe there's a real it gives us
the illusion that maybe there's a human
behind this whole thing and it's not
just some bot conspiracy that's trying
to get us to buy whatever the heck it is
we're trying to you know that's being
sold but you you you want that
consistency because you want people to
be able to say like hey if I go in
Monday I'm going to see new content from
this or I'm going to see an update or
I'm going to get a newslet whatever it
is but it also helps to you know not get
sometimes it's better to be like good
but not perfect that's all I'm saying on
those challenge of the week uh with this
one is pick a process really anything
and it could be a simple is like sending
mail actually I had this discussion ear
day which maybe what I do this week is
actually reading mail years ago I built
tons and tons of filters but I've gone
through I've got a different u mail
client and stuff like that so a lot of
that stuff has gone by the wayside I
still have some but not many so for an
example here what I'm going to do is as
I'm going to look at one of the things
we do all the time is email we see email
we have to process email so I think what
I'm start doing is go back to what I did
before like maybe each day I'll take a
look at the emails that come in and for
those that I can do some sort of
automated process whether it's just
throw it in the trash or uh more
importantly I think what I want to do is
start taking stuff that is customers and
you know you want to make sure it goes
to the right customer folder and I think
even to make sure that if I get one from
a customer that I will forward it into
like one of my you know like my bug
tracking tool that I use and things like
that my to-do list so it'll be like
instead of just my inbox with email
which with my email which is it used to
be good but you know we get it grows and
then the next thing we know it's like
okay our inbox is too big now I do you
know I religiously basically I clean my
inbox on a regular basis so it actually
stays pretty small uh but it does have
sometimes that'll distract me because I
don't check email all the time and if
somebody says hey you need to check your
mail it'll take me a minute because
that's like I'll pop up with all these
things and I'll you know run through and
process my mail real quick while I'm
there uh which is okay for me because
TimeWise that's like a good batch it's
like okay okay I got to be here I can
just like crank this stuff out because
it's not you know it may be 10 or 20
messages but you can like usually go
through those pretty quick and be like
don't need it don't need it don't need
it don't need it okay leave it leave it
leave it and then I'm you know I'm on to
the thing I need to but it can also
distract me from whatever it is that I'm
doing particularly if the person's right
there I'm more likely to get there and
be like Oh I'm going to look at that
email if they're not there I may be like
30 minutes later I'm like lost in some
rabbit hole on some email that I like
wished I hadn't looked at right then so
that's challenge is pick a
process and how can you improve it how
can you automate it or how can you take
stuff you do on a regular basis for
example like say a status maybe there's
a status report if you haven't already
look at it and say all right well what
do I always include here's you know I
probably always have like an intro and
an outro or a summary or something like
that that I can maybe I can take those
and just be like here's my bulletproof
points of here's the stuff I did here's
what I'm going to do here's a summary
something like that so that you at least
have that outline and see how that works
for you start to I think if you do pick
just something ideally pick something
every day five minutes what is it just
like look at your day what do I spend a
lot of time on or at the end of the day
what did I spend a lot of time on and
then is there a way that I can create a
Word document or a notepad thing or a
calendar reminder or whatever that will
help me do that better in the future
let's see how that goes for you one
thing I would actually challenge you to
do not an official challenge it's a side
one is to put on there sending regular
emails to us us because why not because
if you're going to automate it let's go
ahead and do it let us know info@
developer.com what any comments you have
any suggestions recommendations things
like that we are always looking for
feedback we're always looking for ways
that we can become better build a better
podcast from these better developers all
of you people that are out there that
are especially the regular listeners
things like that I mean everybody's
welcome but if you spent some time you
probably have an opinion and we would
love for you to share it with us so we
can utilize that to be better because if
you don't then you know what is it
silence is death or silence is
acceptance or whatever it is there's all
these mean the horrible memes about
silence but it's basically but silence
doesn't mean means that we're not going
to be able to get better we're asking
you to be active participants and we
will be active listeners and make sure
that we help you out and and validate
that and provide you with better content
and if you're the only one that ever
sends us an email then great you will be
able to have your own personal
customized podcast basically based on
your feedback you can also reach out to
us leave us comments wherever you get
Podcast you can check us out on the
develop and ner Channel out on YouTube
go to developer.com and you leave us we
have a contact form you leave comments
on any of our blog articles or anything
like that uh anywhere basically anywhere
you see our name there's probably a way
to give us feedback and we would love
for you to do so we'd love to hear from
you and right now we would love for you
to go out there and have yourself a
great day a great week and we will talk
to you next
time bonus material
so one of the things we touched on um or
at least I touched on a little bit was
the social media like buffer and things
like that there's a lot of tools out
there for social media marketing and
scheduling uh which are very helpful Rob
touched on calendary uh so if you need
to schedule meetings with your customers
instead of having that email back and
forth of when there's availability
calendar is really good because you
could just integrate it with your
website they can go to your page and it
syncs with your calendar so if you have
time blocked off that time won't be
available for them to schedule on your
calendar uh be careful with it though if
you have the wrong tier you might not be
able to create enough buckets for that I
found that out briefly uh but it is a
very good way to help organize your
calendar with your customers uh and then
I guess lastly the other thing I would
touch on cuz you briefly touched on it
is if you're going to go through and
you're going to start building templates
out be careful where you put them don't
just build it put it in a folder and
forget about it uh because then you're
going to have to go through the process
again so if you're going to spend the
time to do it do it right and make sure
you put it in a location that you can
always find it uh and also make sure you
back it up because you don't want to
have it on a hard drive on the computer
that dies or you accidentally sell and
and you lose it um redundancy is
probably the best thing you could do if
you're going to start automating things
make sure you have
backups wow there's actually couple the
backups is actually really is one that
you threw that in there that totally
threw me off because I was just this
last week I've got like another little
uh add one of these little like mini
external drives and I was basic I was
literally backing up Dropbox into this
you know little portable drive because
I'm thinking like hey if I'm going to be
out somewhere that I don't have
connectivity and this is sort of goes
back to what I talked about earlier with
my you know good thing bad thing is that
like I want to be more I'm working on
being much more able to be remote all
the time and one of the things that I
have to do then is that means I want to
be able to be in a situation with my
laptop I can actually be literally
disconnected for hours maybe and get
work done and one of the things I need
to do is there's a lot of stuff I have
in Dropbox this is not a tell them to
like send money because we're they're
not an affiliator anyway so we're not
making money by mentioning this but we'd
love for them to send us money if you
join up and do that but I use that and
so you know I was pushing stuff off to
that and this is Again part of sort of
that automation was one of the things
that I've run into when I try to go
completely disconnected as a developer
is there it's too easy to use cdns and
stuff like that is use these things so
when you build your software you don't
actually have that stuff local it just
goes and hits it somewhere and it's
awesome when you're connected all the
time which basically if you're like me
you are almost all the time and then you
go to build something you're like crap I
can't build it right now because it's
trying to get this stupid CSS library
that yeah I mean it's not that stupid
because I need it it's critical to my
application but I'm really don't need it
right now I would love to be able to
just ignore it but you know I it's like
now I got to go like turn everything off
and say don't you know don't do it right
now or pull it all local which is what
we should probably do
anyways so I I think just I want to
double down on that a little bit is
the the organ if you're going to go
build a template make sure that you also
use that template on a regular basis
that you like get yourself into that
habit and put it somewhere where it's
like okay I'm going to go grab this and
I'm going to use it and even if you're
like me like like the proposals I have
proposals I'll sit down and like a
grammarly I'll crank through it that way
I've got like I'm I've got it you know
correcting all my spelling and grammar
and all that kind of crap but also then
I've got a whole history of these things
which is really useful because one now
I've got you know dozens or hundreds of
templates I can go back to one and go
like oh yeah this is basically it's
pretty close and I can take this and I
can more quickly get the task done that
I need to uh but also it's like I know
where to go so I have that like you know
whether you have it as a link on your
desktop or maybe it's a tab that's
always open on your browser or whatever
it depends on what you you choose your
own poison but it is nice to have stuff
in that way or if you're somebody just
like you put crap on on your desktop and
your desktop is full of all these like
links and all that kind of you do you
but whatever works for you so that you
do make use of these things don't put
your time into it and then throw it away
and never look at it again because then
you just you were busy but not
productive you did a great job you
pulled up you created all this useful
stuff but if you don't use it it's
actually not useful so you didn't create
useful stuff you created useless stuff
congratulations and I say that I say you
but I'm pointing the fingers at me
because I have done that on more than if
occasions where I put a lot of time into
something and go crap not really going
to use that so that also go actually
okay bonus bonus if you're building
software if you're building a solution
for somebody and you're thinking hey
this is a great thing think about stuff
like that where you thought it was a
great thing you built it for yourself
and then you never touched it again so
before you get all like ah these
customers need to use this maybe the
idea that you had was not a very good
one I speak from experience
I also speak from somebody who is ready
to wrap this one up we got to we got to
move on thank you for your time uh
feedback as always is welcome we will be
back almost immediately in our case
basically immediately for the next
episode uh for you guys you may have to
wait a little while have yourself a
great day and we will be here talking to
you ready for our next conversation live
not AI have a good one by bye

I may have people coming in continuing

30.64

to Stage so howdy you everybody we are

34.64

recording if you didn't

37.399

know if we didn't know I guess is really

40.2

should be but uh let's see I'm GNA do a

43.92

little here I want to De oh I don't pop

47.039

up there I want to take this thing and I

49.719

want to make sure there's nothing there

51.559

good kill

53.559

him so we got uh last two were hiring

57

talent and scaling with contractors

59.48

employees ease uh we did elevator pitch

62.399

overcoming barriers uh business finance

65.479

management and the kickoff so we're on

68.159

seven and8 this week what did we we had

73.36

something I could find it did you write

75.6

it in your notes or on your board I

77.72

probably did

79.28

well good thing about like all right I'm

82.84

gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna whine a little

84.6

bit um it's like so we have a we're

87.64

staging the house and the real estate

90.84

agent came in it's like okay well here's

92.24

all the stuff you got to move and stuff

93.439

like that and she said you know look at

95.159

my office of course she was like I don't

96.52

know what we're going to do here but I

97.96

know you got to work which to me is like

100

okay then you can't touch

101.28

anything so clean everything off all

103.24

this stuff and one of the things she

104.04

said do you you know do you need the

105.159

Whiteboard I'm like yeah I use a

106.159

whiteboard all the time and so she's

108.68

like okay well Natalie heard I was going

111.2

to take the Whiteboard down and then she

113.159

just assumed I didn't do it so at the

114.88

last minute I come in after they'd

117.119

staged it and I was like that lady took

118.52

my whiteboard down we we had a

120.399

discussion and agreed so she was it and

122.439

I oh no I did and I was like so I was

125.56

not prepared for it and so whatever I

128.28

had you know I'd already I think I'd

130.039

already erased everything off of there

131.56

so I I don't have my board anymore so

134.28

got my whining out of the way um and I

137.879

don't know where I have notes I don't

140.48

think I wrote that down so I thought I

142

put it in slack let me see if I let me

144.72

go look real quick did iwhere looking

146.92

for that uh so I went to a lunch meeting

150.92

this week and uh there was a lady from

153.64

Jackson State talking about Ai and

156.72

business and it made me think so we

159.68

already talked about Skilling the

160.8

contractor's employee and hiring Talent

163.12

one topic that I thought maybe we could

165.64

discuss is not so much um like hiring

171.12

but maybe task handoff or using AI or

175.48

virtual assistance to streamline your

178.4

process so you can focus on the things

179.959

that you need to focus on and

182.4

not basically do the busy

186.56

work yeah it feels like it's not a I

189.599

don't know

190.7

[Music]

193.92

um it's probably not a we can do AI

197.64

everybody likes AI so I guess we'll do

199.08

an AI we can do an AI discussion and

201.36

soort like some ways you can leverage AI

203.799

I mean that was what n and I were

206

talking yesterday we were because we're

207.319

looking at we're doing

210

branding and Stu because I gave her

211.48

another title basically I'm like okay I

212.879

want you doing like media marketing and

214.879

stuff I want because that was part of

216.72

what we talked about from the start is

217.799

for her to do some of the branding and

219.08

marketing and things and so she said

220.519

well I actually had a chat with I had a

222.159

discussion with chat GPT about uh Google

225.76

basically about

226.959

SEO she's about like you know rankings

229.72

and Google and stuff like that and I'm

231.959

like okay well that's pretty cool I was

233.48

like so what did it come up with and it

235.12

did come up with a couple things that

236.56

you know have I didn't know because

238.36

Google changes their stuff period I

239.92

odically but um I was like you know

242.56

there's like it's not bad to have some

244.519

of those where you're like okay I'm

246.12

going to throw some ideas out there and

247.36

see what it comes back with because

248.72

sometimes it'll G it's like everything

249.72

else it's another voice so um it's not a

253.519

bad way to go about stuff it's like yeah

256.6

I I don't use it as much as I probably

259.239

should but particularly like uh meeting

262.36

summaries and some of those kinds of

264.199

things it's actually pretty darn useful

266.36

and then you get into the whole um

270.12

the like doing tasks that are repetitive

273.16

I mean there's some things now there's a

274.28

lot of stuff you can throw at AI that

275.96

can uh can definitely speed your work up

279

especially the repetitive stuff so yeah

281.44

I think we'll do Ai and

285.199

then oh what's another what's another

287.72

what's a good one I wondering if there's

288.88

something else we can do that's sort of

289.84

like a followup because we've already

291.759

done we've talked about like handing off

294.16

tasks right we've already done like TR

296.28

remember you already you just list them

297.52

all out and I've already forgot them all

299.32

yeah I accidentally oh that's email not

301.88

my where did it go uh there it is I

305.16

think we've done something about like

306.16

using we did uh scaling with contractors

308.68

and employees okay so I think that's uh

312.479

that was growing your business so that

315.16

we didn't really get into this part of

317.6

it that's why I brought it up because uh

319.84

one of the things that they were

321.4

leveraging in this class was talking

323.199

about like why don't you use it for some

325.039

of your HR tasks like building a a

328.12

company handbook or like a code in

330.639

conduct or things like that like where

332.919

you would spend money or hire someone to

334.8

do this and you don't really do it again

336.759

for a while why not leverage AI to get

340.199

you 90% there uh and then hire somebody

344.639

if you need to but you know use it for

346.479

the beginning and it looks like I am

349.08

really cutting out is my audio okay your

352.88

audio is okay but you're like you're

354.4

jumping around you're Max Head rooming a

356.28

little bit there so hang on let me turn

358.24

off this light that might help

362.6

is that

364.16

better

366.599

this okay yeah you're not like it's not

369.4

jumping as much that's odd that it would

370.96

be a light oh that reminds me one more

373.96

light on

374.96

it that's the light yeah that's a

378.319

light I have all these lights I might as

380.479

well make use of them

383.52

okay

385.68

so and

390.4

let's get through the Ai Ai and just

392.12

general let's talk about because we

393.919

haven't really let's go back to like in

395.599

then General automation like some of the

397.4

things Automation and templates let's

399.199

say because actually I think AI will

401.319

sort of feed into that or

403.319

actually let's reverse those too let's

405.639

go Automation and templates first and

408.24

then we'll follow then the next one will

409.8

be Ai and sort of using AI to build that

411.88

and that's like you said like your

412.68

employee handbook and crap like that

414.8

which was funny you mentioned that

415.8

because that's something we're building

416.8

right now is just like huh I wonder what

419.24

this is look like and most the employee

420.8

it's like well okay grandfather didn't

422.28

grandfather didn't

423.879

grandfather didn't exist when you guys

425.879

came

427.44

here is that for for the other one or

430.8

for the your current one oh that's for

433.8

this is for RB Consulting

435.96

so we don't have an employee guide we

438.4

just like I always give them like a few

439.919

documents and stuff like that it's like

441.24

all right we're going to build a

442.28

handbook and stuff like we had a

444.479

handbook but it was virtual and it was

446.599

like it was me chasing stuff down like a

449.68

you know rabid squirrel trying to figure

451.28

out where all those documents went even

453.16

though I had a folder that they should

454.56

all be in stuff would grow and move

458.12

and so that's a good thing we'll talk

460.12

about Automation and templates because

461.319

that will help I think immensely and

463.24

then we'll go into Ai and so we'll do a

464.759

little three and two and go what well I

467.72

was just going to say real quick before

468.84

we do it um that also could lead into

471.199

another topic of filing and managing

473.56

your

475.199

paperwork um yeah we may that may even

477.919

be something we do here that may one to

480.039

talk about here sort of like a file

481.56

system or something like managing all

483.12

that crap because I think that is part

485.24

of the automation because it's not

486.52

necessarily just uh like computer

489.56

program automation but just yourself

491.199

having a very automatic like this is

492.84

what I do this is how I do it this is

494.08

where it goes that kind of stuff okay

496.52

we'll go back to this we'll do our

497.44

little three and a two well hello and

500.199

welcome back we are building better

502.479

developers we are develop andur we are

504.72

back for another episode this time we're

507.319

going to talk about uh templates and

509.039

automation and some things like that in

510.56

your business uh and just ways for you

513.12

to get your stuff done faster however

516.24

we're going to wait give you a little

517.76

bit of like you know so you refresh your

519.279

caffeine or you can listen really

520.719

closely to us because I'm going to

521.88

introduce myself my name is Rob

523.08

Broadhead I am one of the founders of

524.72

develop andur also founder of RB

526.76

Consulting where we through integration

530

simplification automation Innovation we

532.68

use all of these tools and then we use

535.279

the most important tool which is a

536.68

conversation with you we understand work

539.16

with your to understand your business

540.64

and actually not just you know in a

542.92

general sense but like what is your

544.36

secret sauce what is it that is your

546.44

your brand what is it that you bring

548.399

that brings the most value and then we

550.16

helped find ways to leverage technology

553

to get your job done better while still

555.6

being yourself not like one of these

558.12

like chat Bots that you automatically

559.72

know is just a really bad Ai and it's

562.32

just somebody automating something it's

563.8

like no this is where you're like we're

565.519

going to make sure that we get the best

567.56

of your best foot forward with your

569.839

customers and leverage that major

572.079

investment that most companies have

573.44

these days in

574.68

technology now good things and bad

577.32

things uh see good and it's again I'm

579.839

like I'm really in this like two sides

582.16

of the same coin season of life it feels

584.519

like because and I've talked about a

585.959

little bit but we're downsizing we're

588.04

moving somewhere else and so we've we've

591.6

had people come in and now they've

592.76

staged the house and now the good part

594.64

of that is that we have all this like

596

little furniture and stuff like they

597.2

have so the house looks better than it

598.519

ever has it's it's like it's it's really

601.48

good I mean it's like it's nice it's

604

comfy it's all this kind of stuff it's

605.24

not like necessarily the highest quality

606.88

Furniture anything but it looks really

608.36

nice the downside is the bad thing is

611.2

that one of the things we did was my

612.68

office and so now when I go to work I

614.519

don't feel like I'm at work anymore I've

616.76

got like all the stuff that I've have

618.399

had for like is all my little like

620.16

Comfort things and all that kind of

621.519

stuff that like ERS my workspace to me

624.959

is sort of like you know cold and just

627.68

surgical at this point so

630.079

I guess and I guess that's the other

631.36

good thing is that just more reason for

632.8

me to become a road warrior for a while

634.36

and go check out like the local cafes

636.16

and stuff like

637.68

that now so he's because he's got his

641

caffeine and he's ready to go I want to

642.32

go pass this over to Michael so he can

643.76

reduce himself hey everyone my name is

646.079

Michael M I'm one of the co-founders of

647.56

developer building better developers I'm

649.56

also the founder of Envision QA where we

651.6

help

652.72

businesses really analyze their software

655.32

and understand if the software is

657.639

working for them or their working for

659.72

their software one example is if you

662.279

find yourself doing more manual tasks

664.16

than the software can help you with we

665.88

can help you walk through those process

668.12

build systems or apply systems in place

671.16

to help you streamline your business

673.16

improve your performance and hopefully

675.48

improve the bottom line good and bad

678.04

this week uh little bit of a good and

680.92

bad uh it started getting warm started

683.56

getting nice started feeling better and

685.32

then we got cold again and all that fun

688.2

stuff with the rain and the other bad of

690.68

that is because of all the r we're in

692.36

that rainy season uh our driveway

694.68

started to get washed out so uh the

698.079

other good with that was the guy who

700.56

came by when we first bought the house

702.56

that uh surfaced our driveway happened

706.16

to come around three days after we were

708.519

just having the discussion of hey we

710.92

probably need to do the driveway again

712.48

this year and got it done for uh it

716.68

wasn't too cheap but it's cheaper than

718.36

replacing the driveway so good and

721

bad so this one as I said we're going to

724.079

talk about basically like automations

725.959

and templates and things like that and I

727.36

don't want to get we can go and we will

729.32

talk about like using software and

732.519

applications and stuff like that but

734.04

this is really more about routine and

737.199

things like that and making sure that

738.279

you've got things in a situation if you

740.6

use them a lot then you don't have to

742.12

spend a lot of time on them you can just

743.6

like boom you're done and you keep on

745.48

going and that's why I talk like

747.88

probably a lot of this is more about

749

like templates and processes and

751.16

procedures and things like that than

752.839

actually like writing code or anything

755.16

like that the first thing is think about

758.959

the stuff that you do daily or maybe

762

even weekly like on a regular basis for

764.16

example for my company one of the things

766.279

I've do probably almost daily definitely

768.639

do every week is we will write proposals

771.36

for a wide range of

773.68

stuff and then another thing we do is we

776.12

send statuses out we send statuses to

778.32

customers and we do like everybody you

781.16

know you do invoicing periodically

782.839

that's something that you may do daily

784.399

weekly monthly whatever it is that's

785.88

usually something you're counting kind

787.279

of stuff you're probably going to do on

788.959

a regular basis so those are a couple PL

791.839

and then I guess the other one is just

793.16

sort of in a general sense is our

795.76

marketing effort so it's where we want

798.519

to get our name out there so there's all

802.639

of these are very it's very useful to

805

have a template to them so stepping back

807.279

like proposals with the proposal

809.12

proposal yes every proposal is unique to

812

some extent because it's going to be

813.36

like a specific you almost always it's

815.12

going to be a specific customer so

816.519

specific needs specific request

818.68

essentially responding to a specific RFP

821.519

however there's a lot of boilerplate

824.6

kind of stuff that we're going to use in

826.639

any one of those that are things like

828.44

and there or they're things that really

829.68

don't change from Project to project so

831.36

it's stuff like who are we what do we do

834.079

how do we approach it what is our maybe

836.44

like some of our values or maybe even as

839.399

I've mentioned earlier it's like maybe

840.639

there's some like your secret sauce like

842.16

what do we bring to the table that's a

844.079

differentiator from somebody else those

847.16

are all excellent things to have as part

850.36

of every single proposal that you put

852.44

together so we have a template that is

854.959

basically like here it is and then I can

857.6

go through and I can put in the

858.92

specifics and a lot of that is even

860.759

templated to some extent because it's

862.44

things like I know I'm always going to

863.959

have a like here's roughly you know

866.36

restating what the project is and here's

868.36

what the primary goals are then here's

870.44

some of the you know breaking that down

871.759

to like maybe some of the key Milestones

873.32

or something like that those things

874.88

occur everywhere so it helps to have a

877.36

of template not only just because you're

879.519

just going to like reuse the same thing

881.12

it's not just copy and paste but it is

882.72

like to give yourself an outline so when

884.8

you sit down to do that process it's

887.199

easier for you to just sit down and just

888.48

like Bam Bam Bam you go through the

889.88

steps because you've always done it you

891.199

don't have to worry about it's early in

893.16

the morning or late at night and I

894.36

forgot this step or something like that

896.079

you just walk through it or you and you

898.199

can also tweak these these things so

900.079

your templates can make you better

901.72

because what you can do is you can look

903

at how well that template that approach

905

works that process works and then you

907.8

can say ah I wonder if I can improve it

909.839

you make some changes you take a look at

912.279

it and see if maybe that improves it so

914.759

that's like for proposals for status

916.8

it's the same thing and actually status

919.079

and I would say almost any email that

921.399

you send out there's things like you

923.24

know you have a footer on an email go

925.279

ahead and use that signature to the

927.079

email and like use it to spread around

929.24

your your company some you know a lot of

931.319

places will be it'll be maybe their

932.88

mission statement or their Vision uh it

935.12

usually be like contact information and

937

then usually stuff like you know some

938.56

little tagline or maybe a link a lot of

941.6

people like I do will put a link to

943.079

their calendly or one of their

944.6

scheduling things so it's like hey if

945.92

you want to schedule a call here's an

947.44

easier way to do it I recommend that

949.639

even if you're not just for yourself

951.88

these days if you've got some sign of

953.72

sort of service or something like that

955.48

it's so much easier than somebody saying

957.079

hey I'd like to talk to you let's

958.279

schedule it back forth a thousand times

960

and you finally land on something just

961.44

say hey here's a link pick a time that

963.199

works for you and just make sure you got

965.04

your stuff you you know put together yet

967.6

another automation piece that you can do

970.92

the other one I want to talk about is uh

973.68

General marketing and branding kind of

976.44

stuff is we have if you're especially if

980.759

you're in any kind of business that you

982.6

know if you've got a side hustle your

984.04

regular business kind of stuff where

985.68

you're interacting with customers or

987.12

more importantly potential customer

988.92

customers prospects of some sort then

991.12

it's going to help to have some things

993

that are sort of your intro to your

996.199

company flyers and things like that and

998.839

it's going to vary on what you are but

1000.16

it's probably going to be things about

1001.44

like who you are again who you are

1004.12

what's your value what do you bring to

1005.8

the table maybe you know current sales

1008.68

and Deals and stuff like that maybe

1010.24

there's references a lot of people will

1011.72

have like references from other

1013

customers that say Hey you know

1014.68

Michael's a great guy I love working

1016.16

with them something like that these are

1018.959

all really like just I I think we

1022.04

Overlook them sometimes is these are

1023.6

automations and templates and processes

1026.28

that allow us to have a consistent look

1029.679

and feel and approach of our company

1032.4

without having to do a whole lot it's

1034.52

basically like do it refine it and then

1036.839

just like here you go and know one more

1038.76

thing before I pass on to Michael I'm

1040.24

going to steal it from him because he

1041.559

mentioned this is because I mention that

1043.839

I I sometimes suck at this um is or

1048.88

organizing such things is when you go to

1051.64

do when you've got all these templates

1053.24

and you know all of these things that

1055.039

you've built out you need to have an

1057.4

organized way to look at it now it can

1060.039

be helpful you could be like me and

1061.4

there's like I have all of these odd

1063.039

little mental Journeys so I can follow

1065.52

through my stuff but if I have to go

1067.919

look for one specific thing and I'm not

1069.679

on that Journey it can take me a while

1071.16

to get there thus that's why I have

1073.6

somebody that now is like that's part of

1075.799

her biggest job is organizing all of our

1078.24

crap is basing basically taking these

1080.36

documents and doing it in a way that a

1082.52

normal person that at any point can be

1084.44

able to navigate through versus it being

1087

which worked for me I will I will you

1089.28

know argue that it did work for me

1090.6

because it was like I was on this

1091.799

journey so I knew at every step where I

1093.44

was going to be so I knew where I needed

1094.84

to have my stuff my materials for it so

1099.039

you you may want to do it that way

1100.96

there's nothing wrong with that because

1102.44

sometimes

1103.919

your how you do it is the best way for

1107.44

you so it's like if that's how if you

1109.28

have a process and you're here and this

1110.72

is what it looks like then organize it

1113.88

that way but it doesn't hurt to maybe

1115.799

especially these days with all the

1117

digital links and stuff you can do is

1118.799

have it both ways you can have it your

1120.44

way just like McDonald's whatever Burger

1122.919

King whoever it was that tagline you can

1124.36

have it your way but also you could

1126.32

actually like build a structure that

1128.159

makes sense just like we talked about

1129.799

way back with development if you're if

1131.84

you just have like one folder and you

1133.159

just throw all your source of various

1134.96

types in there it's easy to find it in a

1137.44

sense because it's in the one folder but

1139.159

if you want to find a specific thing

1140.52

it's really a pain because you have to

1141.72

look at maybe thousands of other folders

1144.24

it's the same kind of thing and I think

1145.72

for us as developers maybe that makes

1148

more sense is realize that your business

1149.72

is sort of its own set of code and

1151.72

directories and folders and if you build

1153.96

that out properly and look at any big

1156.48

business you'll see those kinds of

1157.799

structures to steal those is go ahead

1159.799

and use that and that will help you as

1161.32

well with your processes your procedures

1163.36

and being able to execute them

1165.799

better that was a lot and so I'm sure

1168.799

Michael is going to have quite a lot

1170.039

here he's been waiting he's been taking

1172.24

notes he's been like ah now it's his

1174.84

turn unless I cut him

1177.24

off thanks Rob

1180.64

so you've already kind of touched on you

1183.48

know using Automation and templates for

1186.28

invoicing strategies proposals marketing

1188.6

you touched on email uh let me take it a

1191.4

little bit further into The Branding

1193.76

world of things because you know I'm

1196.72

currently are social media guy for

1200.679

developer Nur I cut the videos I post

1202.72

them on social media things like that

1204.72

and I'm actually going to kind of walk

1206.2

through how I use a form of Automation

1210.6

and templates to streamline that process

1212.679

which used to take hours into a smaller

1215.84

time site of a couple hours you know

1218.08

sometimes this took a day now it takes

1220.159

maybe about two hours because we still

1221.84

have to write our content for our blogs

1224.799

so initially the first thing we do if

1228.2

you're doing any type of social media or

1230.039

branding for your company you're going

1231.799

to want to post on social media there's

1234.36

lots of different things you can do like

1236.64

Facebook LinkedIn Twitter X whatever um

1240.919

but essentially what you're going to

1242.36

want to do is you kind of want to get

1244.64

into a routine of doing that so you have

1247.64

to automate or create a schedule for

1251.36

posting out your social media because

1252.919

you don't want to just do it once and

1254.2

forget about I'm bad about that with

1255.919

Envision QA cuz I'm too busy working in

1257.72

the business than on the business but

1260.12

when it comes to doing things the right

1263.679

way or the way you should to stay you

1266.48

know up on the rankings within Google or

1269.159

with your uh your customers to keep them

1272.44

engaged you want to try to get into a

1274.72

routine of you know use your calendar

1276.76

set up a calendar reminder that hey I

1278.96

need to post on Monday Wednesday Fridays

1282.2

um initially if you're not new to social

1285.08

media do things where you stagger your

1288.64

were postings you know do it like at in

1290.44

the mornings one day um lunchtime One

1293.84

Day Afternoon one day kind of getting a

1295.76

routine to see what where the feedback

1298.039

comes in this is kind of interesting

1300.12

because if you are in the world of

1301.6

Wordpress or uh other types of website

1305.48

management tools you can actually

1307.36

download Little apps and things and

1308.96

reminders where you can schedule these

1310.52

things out to help you automate the

1312.159

process years ago we used uh something

1315.4

uh was it's not calendary that's the

1318

scheduling tool that we use today for

1319.76

calls but uh we used one for uh it was

1323.44

buffer so we used it to uh essentially

1327.08

go into a calendar we would post the

1329.159

days we want our content to go out we

1331.12

would put links to our blogs and we

1333.32

would set it and forget it it would post

1335.4

out for us we would spend one day doing

1337.559

it instead of trying to remember oh I

1339.32

got to go every day and do that there

1341

are still tools out there and sites that

1342.919

do that um but because the social media

1347.12

sites constantly keep changing things

1349

they break a lot so you still have a

1351.279

little bit of a manual process uh even

1353.84

with the podcasts that we push out

1355.96

sometimes we run into issues where the

1357.76

tools we use to push our podcast out to

1360.44

all the different sites where podcasts

1362.039

go sometimes that fails and we need to

1365

catch that and then we have to make sure

1366.44

that we still get our podcast out in a

1368.32

timely

1369.32

manner um now for those of you because

1372.559

this is a developer or podcast uh if you

1375.799

are a developer we like to write code

1378.96

so one of the other things you can touch

1381.159

on is instead of going out and looking

1383.679

for these things to help you automate

1385.44

you can write your own tools to automate

1388.279

your own um templates and social media

1392.32

posts and things of that nature so well

1396.44

like Rob said you can use the existing

1398.48

tools like word and that they have

1400.6

templates where you can kind of format

1402.64

the way you want it and then you reuse

1404.679

them you could also create your own

1406.88

TurnKey solution with soft Weare where

1409.2

you can basically design what it is that

1411.159

you want that is custom for your company

1413.559

and then you essentially push a button

1415.919

and it spits out what you want the other

1418.36

thing with that is it's something that

1419.76

you could possibly even sell or license

1422.96

so as you're building your business and

1425.24

you're working within your business and

1426.64

looking at these Automation and template

1428.2

things sometimes you run into things

1430.52

that are beneficial to others and if you

1433.08

can get it to work for yourself throw it

1434.88

out there you might make some more money

1436.679

on this I think uh what it Gary Vander

1439.08

chuk or Tim Ferris one of them did

1441.48

something where uh or maybe someone they

1443.84

interviewed created a couple uh

1446.48

WordPress plugins that were very useful

1449.2

to them to help them with their business

1451.64

and they just put them out there and

1453.44

they sold like you know they sold like

1455.48

wildfire so these are I know I'm kind of

1458.64

getting off the topic of automation

1460.039

template but it comes from that so if

1463.039

you are doing something that helps your

1465.159

self your business and be more

1467.559

productive

1469.2

the these are also opportunities that

1471.159

you can use to essentially brand or even

1474.64

Outsource some of your tools to others

1477.08

and make additional income within your

1479.48

business yeah and I think that's a that

1482.6

that does take us a little off Tropic

1484.12

but I think that is a good thing to

1485.32

consider is that there may

1486.96

be not only a benefit to you in doing

1490.08

your with your processes your procedures

1492.2

your templates and things like that but

1494

it may be benefit to other people and

1495.72

there are businesses that have been

1497.6

built off of the business that they did

1500.279

taking their tools and moving that out

1502.24

to use for somebody else so there's

1504.76

always that uh secondary you know effect

1508.44

or maybe it's further down but also

1510.72

additional effect that you can have from

1512.2

doing your processes and your procedures

1513.96

as you do it I I would want to uh note

1517.399

that when you're doing automated

1520.72

stuff um particularly if you can if

1523.159

you're going to code it one of the

1524.799

things that if you can put some sort of

1527.279

wiggle room into your

1529.96

consistency it does help a little bit

1532.12

these days because there's things like

1533.48

you know if you want to post it's one

1534.799

thing if you want to do your post like

1536.039

at noon every day like Bam Bam Bam at

1537.6

noon at noon and that's what we do with

1539.32

the like the podcast and the all of our

1541.799

releases they go out at certain time

1543.799

certain day because you know we're going

1545.36

to be available then but if you're doing

1548.32

General marketing stuff like hey here's

1550.52

an artic hey here's a reference to

1552.52

something we did last week it helps to

1554.679

have to like move that around a little

1557

bit partially because then the social

1558.799

stuff will not like kick you out and say

1560.48

this is just a bot and even other people

1563.159

will say hey maybe this is like it feels

1566

more human because it's not like bam

1568.6

every day at the same time I don't know

1571

how much that adds but for some reason

1572.919

all of us even though we know that we

1574.44

can schedule stuff somewhat randomly we

1576.799

still feel a little better knowing that

1578.36

oh it was a little early it was a little

1579.679

late so maybe there's a real it gives us

1581.64

the illusion that maybe there's a human

1583.72

behind this whole thing and it's not

1585.2

just some bot conspiracy that's trying

1587.52

to get us to buy whatever the heck it is

1589.399

we're trying to you know that's being

1591.559

sold but you you you want that

1593.72

consistency because you want people to

1595.24

be able to say like hey if I go in

1597.919

Monday I'm going to see new content from

1599.799

this or I'm going to see an update or

1601.12

I'm going to get a newslet whatever it

1602.52

is but it also helps to you know not get

1606.72

sometimes it's better to be like good

1608.12

but not perfect that's all I'm saying on

1610.88

those challenge of the week uh with this

1614.08

one is pick a process really anything

1617.52

and it could be a simple is like sending

1619

mail actually I had this discussion ear

1621.24

day which maybe what I do this week is

1623.559

actually reading mail years ago I built

1626.52

tons and tons of filters but I've gone

1628.159

through I've got a different u mail

1630.279

client and stuff like that so a lot of

1631.72

that stuff has gone by the wayside I

1633.72

still have some but not many so for an

1636.76

example here what I'm going to do is as

1638.52

I'm going to look at one of the things

1639.6

we do all the time is email we see email

1642.24

we have to process email so I think what

1644.44

I'm start doing is go back to what I did

1646.44

before like maybe each day I'll take a

1648.52

look at the emails that come in and for

1651.24

those that I can do some sort of

1653

automated process whether it's just

1654.52

throw it in the trash or uh more

1656.72

importantly I think what I want to do is

1658

start taking stuff that is customers and

1660.88

you know you want to make sure it goes

1661.919

to the right customer folder and I think

1663.96

even to make sure that if I get one from

1665.48

a customer that I will forward it into

1667.159

like one of my you know like my bug

1668.679

tracking tool that I use and things like

1670.6

that my to-do list so it'll be like

1672.88

instead of just my inbox with email

1674.84

which with my email which is it used to

1677.799

be good but you know we get it grows and

1680.6

then the next thing we know it's like

1681.72

okay our inbox is too big now I do you

1684.36

know I religiously basically I clean my

1686.44

inbox on a regular basis so it actually

1688.159

stays pretty small uh but it does have

1690.88

sometimes that'll distract me because I

1692.279

don't check email all the time and if

1694

somebody says hey you need to check your

1695.279

mail it'll take me a minute because

1697.519

that's like I'll pop up with all these

1699.279

things and I'll you know run through and

1701.48

process my mail real quick while I'm

1703.36

there uh which is okay for me because

1706.2

TimeWise that's like a good batch it's

1707.799

like okay okay I got to be here I can

1709.2

just like crank this stuff out because

1710.6

it's not you know it may be 10 or 20

1712.72

messages but you can like usually go

1714.36

through those pretty quick and be like

1715.72

don't need it don't need it don't need

1716.88

it don't need it okay leave it leave it

1718.159

leave it and then I'm you know I'm on to

1719.48

the thing I need to but it can also

1721.399

distract me from whatever it is that I'm

1723.24

doing particularly if the person's right

1724.76

there I'm more likely to get there and

1726.519

be like Oh I'm going to look at that

1727.44

email if they're not there I may be like

1730.48

30 minutes later I'm like lost in some

1732.88

rabbit hole on some email that I like

1734.96

wished I hadn't looked at right then so

1737.84

that's challenge is pick a

1739.6

process and how can you improve it how

1742.679

can you automate it or how can you take

1746.08

stuff you do on a regular basis for

1747.559

example like say a status maybe there's

1749.76

a status report if you haven't already

1751.84

look at it and say all right well what

1752.919

do I always include here's you know I

1755.08

probably always have like an intro and

1756.679

an outro or a summary or something like

1758.32

that that I can maybe I can take those

1759.76

and just be like here's my bulletproof

1761.32

points of here's the stuff I did here's

1763.2

what I'm going to do here's a summary

1765

something like that so that you at least

1766.159

have that outline and see how that works

1768.88

for you start to I think if you do pick

1770.72

just something ideally pick something

1772.679

every day five minutes what is it just

1775.399

like look at your day what do I spend a

1776.96

lot of time on or at the end of the day

1779

what did I spend a lot of time on and

1781

then is there a way that I can create a

1782.96

Word document or a notepad thing or a

1786.08

calendar reminder or whatever that will

1787.6

help me do that better in the future

1789.44

let's see how that goes for you one

1791.64

thing I would actually challenge you to

1792.919

do not an official challenge it's a side

1794.799

one is to put on there sending regular

1797.36

emails to us us because why not because

1799.919

if you're going to automate it let's go

1801.24

ahead and do it let us know info@

1803.84

developer.com what any comments you have

1806.84

any suggestions recommendations things

1808.64

like that we are always looking for

1809.799

feedback we're always looking for ways

1811.2

that we can become better build a better

1813.48

podcast from these better developers all

1815.88

of you people that are out there that

1817.2

are especially the regular listeners

1819.159

things like that I mean everybody's

1820.919

welcome but if you spent some time you

1823.279

probably have an opinion and we would

1824.519

love for you to share it with us so we

1826

can utilize that to be better because if

1828.279

you don't then you know what is it

1830.6

silence is death or silence is

1832.2

acceptance or whatever it is there's all

1833.44

these mean the horrible memes about

1836.159

silence but it's basically but silence

1838.399

doesn't mean means that we're not going

1839.679

to be able to get better we're asking

1841.159

you to be active participants and we

1843.84

will be active listeners and make sure

1845.64

that we help you out and and validate

1848

that and provide you with better content

1850.399

and if you're the only one that ever

1851.519

sends us an email then great you will be

1853.24

able to have your own personal

1855.2

customized podcast basically based on

1857.279

your feedback you can also reach out to

1859.24

us leave us comments wherever you get

1861.279

Podcast you can check us out on the

1862.84

develop and ner Channel out on YouTube

1865.159

go to developer.com and you leave us we

1867.08

have a contact form you leave comments

1868.679

on any of our blog articles or anything

1870.76

like that uh anywhere basically anywhere

1873.76

you see our name there's probably a way

1875.6

to give us feedback and we would love

1876.919

for you to do so we'd love to hear from

1878.639

you and right now we would love for you

1880.519

to go out there and have yourself a

1881.84

great day a great week and we will talk

1884.08

to you next

1886.12

time bonus material

1891.919

so one of the things we touched on um or

1896.44

at least I touched on a little bit was

1898.36

the social media like buffer and things

1900.2

like that there's a lot of tools out

1901.96

there for social media marketing and

1904.32

scheduling uh which are very helpful Rob

1906.84

touched on calendary uh so if you need

1910.279

to schedule meetings with your customers

1912.48

instead of having that email back and

1914.159

forth of when there's availability

1916

calendar is really good because you

1917.44

could just integrate it with your

1918.6

website they can go to your page and it

1920.88

syncs with your calendar so if you have

1922.639

time blocked off that time won't be

1924.639

available for them to schedule on your

1926.48

calendar uh be careful with it though if

1928.88

you have the wrong tier you might not be

1930.679

able to create enough buckets for that I

1932.919

found that out briefly uh but it is a

1935.919

very good way to help organize your

1938.799

calendar with your customers uh and then

1941.72

I guess lastly the other thing I would

1943.36

touch on cuz you briefly touched on it

1946.559

is if you're going to go through and

1949.24

you're going to start building templates

1951.679

out be careful where you put them don't

1955.679

just build it put it in a folder and

1957.279

forget about it uh because then you're

1959.279

going to have to go through the process

1961.039

again so if you're going to spend the

1963.88

time to do it do it right and make sure

1966.679

you put it in a location that you can

1968.679

always find it uh and also make sure you

1971.72

back it up because you don't want to

1973.039

have it on a hard drive on the computer

1975.399

that dies or you accidentally sell and

1977.84

and you lose it um redundancy is

1981.799

probably the best thing you could do if

1983.559

you're going to start automating things

1984.799

make sure you have

1989.12

backups wow there's actually couple the

1991.36

backups is actually really is one that

1993.2

you threw that in there that totally

1994.36

threw me off because I was just this

1996.2

last week I've got like another little

1998.799

uh add one of these little like mini

2000.24

external drives and I was basic I was

2002.039

literally backing up Dropbox into this

2004.84

you know little portable drive because

2006.36

I'm thinking like hey if I'm going to be

2007.559

out somewhere that I don't have

2010

connectivity and this is sort of goes

2011.96

back to what I talked about earlier with

2013.88

my you know good thing bad thing is that

2015.6

like I want to be more I'm working on

2019

being much more able to be remote all

2022.12

the time and one of the things that I

2024.039

have to do then is that means I want to

2025.44

be able to be in a situation with my

2027.12

laptop I can actually be literally

2028.639

disconnected for hours maybe and get

2030.799

work done and one of the things I need

2032.6

to do is there's a lot of stuff I have

2034.279

in Dropbox this is not a tell them to

2037.36

like send money because we're they're

2038.679

not an affiliator anyway so we're not

2040.32

making money by mentioning this but we'd

2042.519

love for them to send us money if you

2043.799

join up and do that but I use that and

2047.679

so you know I was pushing stuff off to

2050.04

that and this is Again part of sort of

2051.44

that automation was one of the things

2052.96

that I've run into when I try to go

2054.72

completely disconnected as a developer

2057.72

is there it's too easy to use cdns and

2060.359

stuff like that is use these things so

2061.919

when you build your software you don't

2064

actually have that stuff local it just

2065.839

goes and hits it somewhere and it's

2067.72

awesome when you're connected all the

2069.119

time which basically if you're like me

2070.8

you are almost all the time and then you

2073.24

go to build something you're like crap I

2075.04

can't build it right now because it's

2076.24

trying to get this stupid CSS library

2079

that yeah I mean it's not that stupid

2081.24

because I need it it's critical to my

2082.72

application but I'm really don't need it

2084.359

right now I would love to be able to

2085.919

just ignore it but you know I it's like

2089.04

now I got to go like turn everything off

2090.72

and say don't you know don't do it right

2092.28

now or pull it all local which is what

2094.119

we should probably do

2095.919

anyways so I I think just I want to

2098.56

double down on that a little bit is

2100.68

the the organ if you're going to go

2103

build a template make sure that you also

2106.8

use that template on a regular basis

2109.64

that you like get yourself into that

2111.28

habit and put it somewhere where it's

2112.44

like okay I'm going to go grab this and

2113.64

I'm going to use it and even if you're

2115.28

like me like like the proposals I have

2117.32

proposals I'll sit down and like a

2119.44

grammarly I'll crank through it that way

2122.16

I've got like I'm I've got it you know

2124.32

correcting all my spelling and grammar

2125.76

and all that kind of crap but also then

2128.2

I've got a whole history of these things

2130.359

which is really useful because one now

2132.24

I've got you know dozens or hundreds of

2134.56

templates I can go back to one and go

2135.92

like oh yeah this is basically it's

2137.64

pretty close and I can take this and I

2139.119

can more quickly get the task done that

2141.119

I need to uh but also it's like I know

2143.839

where to go so I have that like you know

2145.599

whether you have it as a link on your

2147.599

desktop or maybe it's a tab that's

2149.2

always open on your browser or whatever

2150.72

it depends on what you you choose your

2152.56

own poison but it is nice to have stuff

2155.24

in that way or if you're somebody just

2156.76

like you put crap on on your desktop and

2158.359

your desktop is full of all these like

2160.88

links and all that kind of you do you

2163.8

but whatever works for you so that you

2165.8

do make use of these things don't put

2167.839

your time into it and then throw it away

2169.28

and never look at it again because then

2170.839

you just you were busy but not

2173.119

productive you did a great job you

2174.56

pulled up you created all this useful

2176

stuff but if you don't use it it's

2177.96

actually not useful so you didn't create

2179.44

useful stuff you created useless stuff

2181.96

congratulations and I say that I say you

2184.52

but I'm pointing the fingers at me

2186.119

because I have done that on more than if

2187.68

occasions where I put a lot of time into

2189.16

something and go crap not really going

2191.96

to use that so that also go actually

2195.48

okay bonus bonus if you're building

2197.92

software if you're building a solution

2199.359

for somebody and you're thinking hey

2201.64

this is a great thing think about stuff

2203.88

like that where you thought it was a

2205

great thing you built it for yourself

2206.92

and then you never touched it again so

2209

before you get all like ah these

2210.8

customers need to use this maybe the

2213.48

idea that you had was not a very good

2215.599

one I speak from experience

2218.64

I also speak from somebody who is ready

2220.28

to wrap this one up we got to we got to

2222.56

move on thank you for your time uh

2224.68

feedback as always is welcome we will be

2227.56

back almost immediately in our case

2230.2

basically immediately for the next

2232.359

episode uh for you guys you may have to

2234.16

wait a little while have yourself a

2236.16

great day and we will be here talking to

2238.68

you ready for our next conversation live

2241.68

not AI have a good one by bye
