This stop in our AWS tour is at the Amazon Marketplace.  This site is not so much a service as a source for solutions.  Just as the name implies, this is a marketplace for AWS solutions.

Why Bother With Amazon Marketplace?

Your first question is likely to be, “why do we need this?”  That makes sense when you look at all AWS has to offer.  However, when you look at all that is offered, you may be overwhelmed.  Also, you know that any system you desire will take time to install, configure and bring live.  This challenge is where the marketplace shines.

Amazon marketplace provides a large (thousands) selection of AWS solutions.  These range from a simple Linux server to fully installed solutions like SAS, WordPress, TIBCO, and many others.

What is The Cost?

The marketplace includes free and paid solutions.  However, you might have a concern about the quality of these pre-built solutions.  Have no fear.  The packages provided in the marketplace are vetted and tested.  Thus, you can be confident that they will be a high-quality install and configuration of the software.  On the other hand, these tend to be generic installs, so you will still have some work to do before going live.  These solutions save that monotonous upfront installation and configuration work that is needed just to get started with the application.

A Lively Marketplace

The search and filter features of this service make it easy to find any software you are interested in.  I highly recommend you start here for any new AWS solutions you are considering.  A few minutes on this page may save hours of installs and configuration headaches.  The list of available options changes regularly so return periodically to see what is available.  You might find a quick solution to a package you want to implement or have an epiphany browsing through the offerings.

This site may not be a service in the sense of the others we have reviewed, but it is offering you a great tool.  Browsing costs nothing so what do you have to lose?
